A Complete drywall Repair

Your Wet Drywall will be cut out and replaced with new drywall.

A water damaged drywall repair is only successful when the repair is secure, smooth and not noticeable. That requires more than filling the damaged area with joint compound.

MrWalls inspects the water damage, removes wet or damaged material, installs proper backing when needed, reinforcing the seams of the repair in several controlled steps.

  • Protect floors, walls and furniture before work begins
  • Remove wet damaged drywall and damaged tape
  • Install backing and replacement board when needed
  • Blend the repair into the surrounding ceiling
  • Prime and paint after the repair is complete

How It Works

Our Water Damage Repair Process

Every water damage repair is different, but most projects follow these four basic steps.

1

Inspect the Damage

We identify wet drywall, moisture damage, failed joints, movement and other visible drywall problems.

2

Prepare the Area

Floors and nearby surfaces are protected before damaged material is removed and the repair area is prepared.

3

Repair and Finish

New drywall is installed, tape and finishing compound are applied as needed to rebuild the ceiling surface.

4

Prime and Paint

The repair is sanded, checked, primed and painted for a clean, consistent finished appearance.

Common Problems

Signs Your Drywall Needs Repair

Contact a wet drywall repair contractor when you notice brown spots and wet drywall. After the leak is fixed contact Mrwalls to fix the drywall.

1

Brown Water Stains

Water stains can indicate a roof, plumbing or bathroom leak above the ceiling. Repair the leak before closing the ceiling.

2

Cracks That Keep Returning

Recurring cracks may require loose material removal, reinforcement and a wider finishing area.

3

Sagging Drywall

Sagging can be caused by moisture, improper fastening, excess weight or weakened ceiling material.

4

Loose Plaster

Plaster that sounds hollow, moves when pressed or drops debris may need stabilization or partial replacement.

5

Peeling Tape or Paint

Peeling tape and bubbling paint can result from poor bonding, moisture or previous repair work.

6

Holes and Cutouts

Openings left by plumbing, electrical work, lights, vents or removed fixtures can usually be patched and finished.

Questions and Answers

Wet Drywall Repair FAQs

Can a damaged ceiling be repaired without replacing the entire ceiling?

Yes. Many wet spots, holes, stains and damaged sections can be repaired locally. Larger repairs may require removing a wider section so new drywall can be supported and blended properly.

Do I need to fix the leak before repairing water-damaged drywall?

Yes. The roof, pipe, bathroom or other moisture source should be corrected before the ceiling is closed and refinished.

Can you repair both drywall and plaster ceilings?

Yes. The repair method depends on the ceiling material, the condition of the surrounding surface and the cause of the damage.

Will the repaired area need to be painted?

Most ceiling repairs should be primed and painted. Painting the entire ceiling often gives a more consistent result than touching up only the repaired section. We often offer to do the painting with the repairs.

Can you repair a textured ceiling?

Yes, many ceiling textures can be matched or blended. The final result depends on the existing texture, previous paint and the size of the damaged area.

What information should I provide when requesting an estimate?

Provide your location, photos of the damage, approximate ceiling height, the cause of the damage and whether the area is still wet or actively leaking. If Insurance has been out send a copy of the repair estimate so we can review and see if anything needs to be added.
